Nico Williams gives Barcelona the green light after Barca offers €250m for Yamal

According to ‘Sport’ and monitored by SKB Journal – Sports, there is already an agreement in principle between Nico Williams and Barcelona to join the Catalan side this summer. Now it only remains for Athletic to reach an economic agreement with the Catalans for the transfer to take place.

Winger Nico Williams has a contract with Athletic until 2027, but could leave this summer. According to ‘Sport’, the Spaniard has reportedly already given the green light to the proposal presented to him by Barcelona.

The same media outlet reports that the player’s agent Felix Tainta met last week with the Catalan club to discuss his future. At that meeting an agreement in principle was reached between the two parties.

Nico Williams was happy with the personal terms included in Barcelona’s proposal, although the registration and length of the contract that Barcelona have proposed to the Athletic player is unknown.

With the forward’s approval, all that remains is for the suitors to sit down and talk to the Basque club before the transfer can be completed.

The 21-year-old wants assurances that Barcelona will be able to complete his transfer as he does not intend to wait all summer and Athletic will not have time to find a replacement for him.

In order to complete the transfer, the board will have to pay his buyout clause, as president Jon Uriarte has made it clear that he will not negotiate for the younger Williams. According to ‘AS’, his clause rose from 50 to 58 million euros after renewing in December 2023.

Barcelona offered €250m for Yamal before Euro 2024

Barcelona offered €250m for Yamal before Euro 2024

.

Before Lamine Yamal left for the European Championships in Germany, Barcelona received an offer of 250 million euros for their player. The Spanish club’s board did not consider his departure for a moment despite the dizzying figure, which, according to ‘EFE’, could have come from Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona rejected an offer of 250 million euros for winger Lamine Yamal before the European Championship, considering him untransferable as a key player in their sporting project, according to ‘EFE’.

This offer, allegedly coming from Paris Saint-Germain, was not even contemplated by sporting director Deco, who last season, in addition to Lamine Yamal, has undertaken the renewal of other jewels of the academy, such as Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort.

Yamal, who will turn 17 in a few days’ time and has become the star of the European Championship with the Spanish national team, has been renewed until 2026 – extendable to 2028 when he reaches the age of majority – and has a 1 billion euro buyout clause.

Cubarsi, who will play in the 17-year-old Olympic Games with Spain, renewed until 2027 with a 500 million euro clause. And Fort, who will turn 18 next month, renewed until 2026, although the club did not disclose at the time how much his clause is now set at.

Barcelona also renewed 21-year-old midfielder Fermin Lopez, one of last season’s revelations, last season until 2028, with a 400-million contract clause.

And among the most promising players, the only one they have not been able to keep is striker Marc Guiu, who has finally preferred to pay his clause (6 million euros) and join Chelsea.
