Accra Lions to Host Young Apostles in Crucial GPL Matchday Seven Clash

Accra Lions will welcome Ghana Premier League debutants Young Apostles on Saturday, October 19, for a matchday seven showdown at the University of Ghana Stadium.

With both teams aiming to break into the top 10 of the league standings, a victory would be crucial ahead of Sunday’s fixtures. However, both sides enter the match on the back of two winless outings.

Accra Lions lost to Asante Kotoko on matchday five but managed a 1-1 draw at home against Berekum Chelsea in their most recent fixture. Ibrahim Tanko’s men currently sit 15th in the league, having secured five points from six games. While they’ve netted just five goals this season, they’ve conceded seven.

At home, Lions have had mixed results, winning one, drawing one, and losing to newly promoted Vision FC on matchday two.

Young Apostles, meanwhile, are hoping to end a two-game losing streak following defeats to Berekum Chelsea and Hearts of Oak. The Wenchi-based team came close to snatching a point from Hearts until a late goal from Hamza Issah handed them a home defeat.

Like Lions, Apostles also have five points this season from one win and two draws. Joseph Asare Bediako’s side has scored five goals, with four coming at home, but they’ve struggled on the road with two losses and a draw from three away games.

The Apostles are in search of their first away win in the league and will look to draw inspiration from Vision FC’s victory over Accra Lions earlier in the season.

The match is set to kick off at 3 PM.
