Popular Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known widely as Bobrisky, spent Monday night at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annexe in Alagbon, Lagos, following his arrest by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Bobrisky was reportedly apprehended while attempting to flee the country through the Seme Border at 1:30 a.m. on Monday. The arrest, carried out by NIS officers, has made Bobrisky a “person of interest” in connection with undisclosed public concerns, according to official sources.
A statement is expected from the FCID later today to provide further details on Bobrisky’s detention and the investigation. Kenneth Udo, spokesperson for the NIS, confirmed the arrest and emphasized that it was part of the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders.
“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, the NIS intercepted Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border over an attempt to exit the country,” Udo said in a statement. “The service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.”
Bobrisky is currently undergoing interrogation, and the FCID is expected to make a decision regarding his continued detention as investigations proceed. According to sources at the FCID, a remand was expected to be obtained on Tuesday to allow detectives to further investigate the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
“The service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s borders,” Udo concluded.
The arrest of Bobrisky has sparked widespread curiosity, and further updates are anticipated as more information becomes available.
