Berry Ladies FC were beaten 3-1 by Hasaacas Ladies FC in an intriguing battle at the Madina Astroturf which saw the away side profit from two punishable mistakes made by Berry Ladies FC team.
Hasaacas Ladies FC had taken the lead through a remarkable first-half 2 strikes(goals) from mistakes made by Berry Ladies FC defenders.
Deborah Annoh came off the bench in the second half and played her part in what looked like a sensational consolation goal with 20 minutes remaining.
Regina Donkor’s deflected heading own goal 5 minutes into the 90th minutes sealed the deal for Hasaacas Ladies FC to grab all three points.
A disappointing result, granted, but there were positives to take for Berry Ladies, who matched Hasaacas Ladies until the death at Madina Astroturf, a match marked at EL Classico of Malta Guinness Ghana Women’s Premier League.
DEBORAH ANNOH OFF THE MARK
Deborah Annoh’s fantastic strike beyond Hasaacas Ladies goalkeeper opened her account for the 2023/24 Ghana Women’s Premier League season as a defender.
Deborah Annoh also played a role in last weekend’s win over Essiam Socrates Ladies, but this was the first one she could claim as her own – and a superb one it was, cutting in from the left and finishing it on a counterattack.
Deborah, the former Ladystrikers player was a dangerous figure throughout the contest when she was subbed in, and almost set up new attacking team-mate Janet Osei following a jinking run and pull-back in the second half.
She also had another shot blocked after a similarly threatening run down the left late in the game. In this mood, Deborah Annoh will be confident of adding to her Berry Ladies tally.
GRACE’S CONFIDENCE
Grace Krofi Amoah’s unique playing style has been evident throughout the campaign thus far, but it was interesting to see there being no let-up in that ethos against last season’s Premier League Southern Zone winners.
Berry Ladies FC’s first goalkeeper made a number of bold passes out from the back, including a couple early in the first half. A cute pass chipped over the oncoming and pressing attackers of Hasaacas Ladies.
GRACE is showing herself to be a key figure already in other senses –she was quick to celebrate Deborah’s consolation goal with Berry Ladies FC’s home fans.
DEFENSIVE WITHDRAWALS
Berry Ladies FC came into this game without Priscilla Agyemang , Rahinatu Mumuni and Martha Appiah.
The boss, Coach Freeman Amponsah provided an update on the availability of his players in his post-match brief with the Berry Ladies FC media team, and it was unfortunate how the list of absentees mounted as the game wore on in Madina Astroturf.
Elizabeth Ayebea had marshalled the defense well before her withdrawal on 67 minutes to change the tactics.
Elizabeth Ayebea had made a number of important interventions, particularly in the first half, when she reacted quickly to clear after one of Hasaacas attackers, Alice Sarpong had missed a presentable chance in Berry Ladies FC’s box.
JANET KORKOR OSEI’S INVOLVEMENT
Janet Osei came back into the team from the start last weekend, making her mark by scoring the first of Berry Ladies Fc’s three goals against Essiam Socrates, but her impact was felt for different reasons here.
Janet was expertly positioned in the Right Back to catch Mukaram Abdulai of Hasaacas Ladies on the transition on more than one occasion – most notably so as she played a key role in the game’s consolation goal. It was Janet Osei who intercepted a loose pass in midfield, before demonstrating her customary vision to fizz the ball out wide for Deborah Annoh as she went on to score brilliantly.
Janet Osei looked set to repeat the trick in the second half, again cutting out play near the halfway line and finding Portia Sakyiwaa on the break, but that time the forward’s shot was blocked.
