In November 2020, Candybell Kensah was named Miss Tourism International, Ghana. However, little is known about the 24-year-old lady who is putting Ghana on the map internationally. Before her time on Miss Tourism, she suffered loss and rejection.
Candybell is a product of the University of Ghana, Legon where she studied for a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics. During her time in the university, she participated in and got to the finale of the Miss Legon beauty pageant. She also auditioned for Miss Malaika, Miss Universe Ghana and Miss Ghana but did not get into any of them. Having given up on pageantry at this point, Candybell occupied herself with projects geared towards young women and girls.
After losing her mum at just 11 years old and her father a few years afterwards, Candybell was determined to push herself to become the best version of herself she could ever be. Her mother, who was a single parent set a great example for her and her 3 other siblings by being strong, independent and self-suficient. This contributed to Candybell occupying various leadership positions from high school through to her national service.
When she was confronted with the opportunity to become Miss Tourism International, Ghana, she had to get over her disillusionment with pageantry and step up. In her capacity as Miss Tourism, she represented Ghana in competitions and was the face of tourism for about 7 months.
Candybell has worked with various organisations in diverse capacities. She has been a wellness coach, an editor, a creative strategist, an administrative assistant, and a freelance consultant for charities. She was also a programmes manager for BeScience STEM, a UK- based charity promoting education in STEM.
Currently, Candybell is working on her first book for and about women and girls.
