Manchester United legend Roy Keane has spoken on Sky Sport about the situation facing the Red Devils after Manchester City’s 3-0 victory in the Manchester derby.
“After watching him play I will 100% take the captaincy away from him. I know it’s a huge decision, but even if they took the armband off Maguire, Fernandes doesn’t have the makings of a captain either,” said the former Manchester United captain.
“He’s a talented player, no doubt. But what I saw today, his whining, his moaning, he throws his arms in the air all the time. This is really not acceptable. From what we saw today, we should remove the armband from him, he is the opposite of what I would want in a captain,” added Keane.
The defeat against Manchester City has placed United in eighth place in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Tottenham, and has also put Erik ten Hag in the spotlight of criticism.
