Humble beginnings have always been motivation to achieve more. From Asokoro in Abuja, a young Nigerian woman has worked her way to become a medical doctor in Birmingham, UK with distinction and various other awards.
Mercy Oyinnua Osayi is a product of Community Secondary School in Asokoro, Abuja-Nigeria. After graduating from secondary school, she attended Afe Babalola University to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery undergraduate degree. In 2017, a year after she graduated, she started studying for a Medicinae Baccalaureus et Baccalaureus Chirurgiae (MBChB) degree from Birmingham University.
This year, she graduated and to share the news of her achievement, she shared some photos on LinkedIn with the following caption:
“Last week I received the official email from my University and I am officially Dr Mercy Oyinnua Osayi MBChB *screaming* .It has been such a long journey, 8.5 years long to be precise (it is an even longer story) and I have so so much to be thankful for. I achieved so much in this time, things I didn’t imagine I would be capable of at the start of the journey and I am proud of my progress.”
“God made this possible and I am forever thankful for the amazing people that He strategically placed in my life. I am grateful for growth, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I am grateful for family. I am grateful for love and friendships.”
I am grateful for my teachers and mentors. I am grateful for peace and joy. I am grateful, even for the lows because I learned valuable lessons. I am grateful for the next chapter and I am excited about the future. #medicaldoctor #celebratesuccess #celebrateyourwins #newbeginnings #foundationdoctor #leicester”
