Get ready, golf lovers! The Tafo Golf Club is set to host one of its biggest and most exciting tournaments yet, the P.K. Amoabeng @73 Golf Tournament on Saturday, February 22, 2025. This annual event is more than just a day on the greens; it is a celebration of legacy, camaraderie, and excellence, all in honor of Captain (Rtd.) Prince Kofi Amoabeng, a towering figure in Ghana‘s business, leadership, and golfing circles who also is the club’s longest-serving president.
Amoabeng, a former military officer, is best known as the founder of UT Bank, the man who revolutionized SME financing in Ghana with his famous “loan in 48 hours” model.
His bold approach changed the financial landscape, making credit more accessible to businesses. Even beyond finance and sports, Amoabeng continues to make an impact through the P.K. Amoabeng Foundation, a leadership initiative dedicated to training the next generation of African leaders with the right mindsets and values to transform the continent. His vision extends beyond business success—he is committed to mentoring and inspiring young people to drive sustainable change across Africa.

With nearly 20 years at the helm of the club, Amoabeng has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s golfing community, and even at 73, he still carries the energy and enthusiasm of a young golfer. “He’s now 73 but still young,” said Mr. Joseph, Captain of Tafo Golf Club, in an interview with SKB Journal, hinting at Amoabeng’s unwavering passion for the sport.
No Fundraising, Just Golf, Fun, and a Big Celebration
Unlike previous editions, where a fundraising segment was added to support the club, this year’s tournament is all about the game, the fun, and a grand celebration. “This year, it’s just the tournament, fun, and the awards and dinner night in the evening,” Mr. Joseph revealed.
Expect an electric atmosphere as players, club members, and fans gather for a day packed with thrilling golf action, good vibes, and well-earned victories.
Competitive Action Across Categories
Golfers will hit the course for an 18-hole medal play competition, following the official rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf of St. Andrews, Ghana Golf Association guidelines, and Tafo Golf Club’s local rules. Participants will battle it out in the following categories:
- Men’s Group A (Handicap Index 0 – 13.6)
- Men’s Group B (Handicap Index 13.7 – 24.0)
- Ladies’ Group A (Handicap Index 0 – 24.5)
- Seniors (Men & Ladies, aged 60 and above)
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category, except for the Seniors division, where only the champions will be recognized.

Beyond the Game: Drinks, Food, and a Grand Dinner
If you think the excitement ends on the course, think again! The tournament promises a refreshing experience both on and off the fairway. Participants will enjoy beer, fresh coconut, bottled water, and lunch throughout the event.
And to wrap things up in style, a special awards ceremony and dinner will be held at P.K. Amoabeng’s residence, where competitors, guests, and golf lovers will come together to celebrate another fantastic tournament.
Golfers must register by February 20, 2025, with an entry fee of GHS 300.00 (excluding caddy fees). For those who want a head start on the course, practice rounds will be available on Friday, February 21, 2025—free of green fees!
