Telegram’s first 2025 update introduces third-party verification, NFT gifts, enhanced message search filters, and blockchain integration to boost security and user engagement.
The Telegram update introduces groundbreaking features, including third-party account verification, NFT gifting, blockchain integration, and enhanced message search filters for better usability..
The chat platform, already known for its verification program for public figures and organizations, has expanded this initiative by partnering with verified third-party entities, such as food quality regulators or educational consortiums, to authenticate accounts.
Accounts verified through this new process will display a distinctive logo next to their names instead of the traditional blue checkmark.
This decentralized platform for additional verification will help prevent scams and reduce misinformation, with a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms.
New Verification Process
To obtain the verified badge, individuals or organizations must first undergo verification and submit an application. Telegram explained that third-party entities could use its Bot API to grant or revoke verification. This approach is somewhat similar to X’s paid verification model, where organizations verify affiliated accounts. Verified accounts associated with organizations will feature the entity’s logo on their profile.
NFT Gifting and Blockchain Integration
Another key feature in this telegram update is the ability to turn gifts into NFTs. Users can customize these gifts with unique backgrounds and icons, sending them by purchasing Telegram Stars through the app or via the Fragment website, which requires linking a TON crypto wallet.
Telegram noted that users could trade these NFT collectibles on various platforms. To cover blockchain transaction costs, the platform charges users a fee to upgrade gifts into NFTs. This initiative aligns with Telegram’s broader adoption of cryptocurrencies for creator monetization, in-app payments for games, and mini-apps.
Additional Enhancements
The update also introduces new emoji reactions for service messages, such as when someone joins a group. Users can now enjoy advanced search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels, further enhancing navigation and usability. With these new features, Telegram continues to innovate, focusing on decentralization, user engagement, and leveraging blockchain technology to provide cutting-edge experiences for its global user base.
