De Zerbi urges Ansu Fati to improve his 'physical condition'

Brighton coach Roberto de Zerbi took Ansu Fati to task at a press conference on Wednesday. He told reporters that both Fati and Valentin Barco must “improve their physical condition”.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi called on Ansu Fati to “improve his physical condition” as a way of explaining why the striker was left out of the squad for the Premier League game against Brentford.

The Spanish forward, who is on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season, was on the bench at the weekend against Liverpool but did not play a minute and was excluded of the squad for the goalless draw against Brentford on Wednesday.

“Fati and Valentin Barco, I didn’t decide to play with them in the squad for this game. I wanted them to work alone to improve their physical condition,” De Zerbi told reporters on Wednesday.

Ansu Fati’s season at Brighton is leaving a lot to be desired as he has managed to score four goals and provide one assist in 26 appearances, mostly as a substitute.

“Fati is working very well but from him I have different expectations. I haven’t changed my opinion about Ansu Fati. He is one of the best talents in the world for his age,” he continued.

He needs to improve his performances, to improve his physical condition, to improve his mentality because to play in the Premier League you have to be stronger in mentalitystronger physically. When he shows us the right condition, he will be ready to play for us and I will be happy.”
