Minimum IELTS Score Required to Study in the USA

Not too long ago, an increased number of U.S colleges and universities have begun accepting IELTS score as a major admission requirement.

In case you possess an IELTS test already, it’s not required to take TOEFL anymore. You can still apply for college admission in the US with IELTS.

Prior to that, you should decide whether IELTS or TOEFL For USA and after that take one English Proficiency test. International Students who are non-native English speakers are required to prove their English skills when applying for college admission in America.

What is the Minimum IELTS Score Required to Study in the USA?

If your score is lower than 5.5 ( TOEFL 46 to 59), you should give consideration to retaking the IELTS Test. In the event that you are targeting average Universities, then IELTS score of 6.5 or more is needed.

Some Universities do give conditional admission if your score is less than minimum required score.

Example: If your score is 6.5 and the minimum score required is 7.0, the university may still accept you. In some cases, you can still be asked to take an English test after arriving in the university campus.
