Liverpool's Diaz confesses VAR error 'hit him very hard'

Liverpool striker Luis Diaz gave an interview to Colombian outlet ‘El Heraldo’ and spoke about his disallowed goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The 26-year-old admitted that he was affected by the VAR error.

VAR official Darren England and his assistant (AVAR) Daniel Cook did not over-rule the incorrect on-field decision of offside after Luis Diaz had scored what would have been the opening of Saturday’s Premier League clash in north London.

Liverpool went on to lose 2-1 and had Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota sent off as their unbeaten start to the season came to an end. Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) released a statement admitting a “significant human error” had led to the wrong decision being made.

“The goal issue was a bit complicated. At the time it hit me very hard, but not only to me, but to all my teammates,” Diaz told Colombian outlet ‘El Heraldo’.

“In the middle of the game we talked about it a lot, it [would have been] a positive result that was going to help us. These are things that happen, the referees are human. You have to take it easy and for the next one it will be,” he added.
