Cristiano Ronaldo served the one-match ban he received as sanction for his celebration towards the stands in the match against Al Shabab. After Sadio Mane’s goal in stoppage time had put his team ahead, the Portuguese waved his fist in anger in the stands, a gesture that some might also consider obscene.

The controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo in Arabia continues. It all started with some gestures of the Portuguese star towards the stands after scoring in the match against Al Shabab. Now another gesture, while serving his suspension, has generated more controversy.

Sadio Mane scored a goal in stoppage time to give Al Nassr a momentary win and Ronaldo celebrated from the VIP box. For some, that celebration may have been a hidden agenda. What the Madeira-born player did was to shake his fist, a movement that may have been somewhat obscene depending on one’s interpretation.

After the match against Al Shabab, the Saudi authorities decided to investigate Ronaldo’s actions in confronting the crowd after scoring his goal. As a result, the striker was forced to explain his actions.

In the end, the former Real Madrid man defended himself: “I was expressing vigour and victory“. But this was not enough to get rid of the sanction that was eventually imposed on him. Ronaldo has missed the match against Al Hazem and must also pay a fine of 7,376 euros.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s time in Arabia has not been indifferent to anyone. As much for his goals and good performance as for his numerous controversies. A new chapter in the Portuguese’s time in Saudi Arabia is opening, we will see how it ends.
